Caring for Your Alloy Wheels

November 20, 2017 / Leonardo Gilbert / 0 Comments

Alloy wheels are a top choice amongst the top quality cars and are preferred over the old steel wheels. They are best known for the durability and the functional design that they bring forth. These high performance wheels find widespread uses in the car racing industry where their reliability and high performance come in handy.

Apart from the car racing industry, they are also used widely in the car tuning industry. If you are planning to make a “statement” with your car, then they will undoubtedly be the top choice for you. The wheels are manufactured from an aluminum magnesium alloy from which they derive their name. They also find wide application in the auto racing industry because they are generally very light in weight while also retaining incredible strength in the construction.

Additionally, the alloy wheels have better heat conduction properties and allow for better and easier handling of the car. When used on your car, they add an aesthetic appeal and make your car look nicer and more appealing. Cars with these kinds of wheels generally look a lot classier.

How to care for your alloy wheels

Good maintenance of the wheels not only makes your car look really nice; it also contributes to the durability of the vehicle. It is possible to make the wheels look nice and shining at all times while you have to put in only a little effort in order to give them the best care possible. When they are made from Aluminum, they will particularly require better care and maintenance in order to keep them in the best condition and also bring out their true quality and appearance.

The cleaning and maintenance for these wheels must be done on a regular basis and there are several things that you will need in order to carry out the cleaning successfully. These include plenty of water, hose, a soft rag for cleaning the wheels, brush for cleaning the vehicle wheels, and even some cotton swabs.

You can use the cotton swabs in order to clean the parts of the alloy wheels which are hard to reach using the normal cleaning materials such as brushes and rags. In order to accentuate the wheel’s finish, you can even add some polish. It is however, important to ensure that the polish that you are using is suited for that type of wheel.

The cleaning of the wheels

Choose a warm day to carry out the cleaning of the wheels. Use a water hose to remove the dust, grime and the mud from the wheel. Try to arch the hose in order to get the dirt from some of those tricky corners of the wheels.

After the hosing, soak your cleaning rug in soapy water and use it to scrub the wheels gently. Once you have done a thorough scrubbing of the wheels, rinse it using clean water. Use the wheel brush in order to clean inside the spokes of the alloy wheels. Once you are done, rinse again thoroughly with clean and plain water in order to rid the wheel of the dirt. You can use the dry cotton swabs in order to wipe off the remaining dirt from the wheels. Now dry the wheel using a clean and dry cloth or towel.

If you like, you may proceed and wax or polish the wheels. The types of the wax and the polish that you will use will be dependent on the type of the wheel finish. It is important to verify this when you are planning to purchase your wax or polish.
